Description Nicole Schafer (South Africa, 1980) is an independent documentary filmmaker & the director of Thinking Strings Media, based in the KwaZulu Natal midlands. Nicole has skills as a documentary producer, director, researcher, production coordinator, camerawoman and editor. She has experience on both local and international film and television shoots. Some of her production credits include Lonely Planet’s travel show “Six Degrees” and “Sport Traveller” broadcast on Discovery, “Last House on the Left” produced by FILM AFRIKA/UNIVERSAL and “Doomsday" produced by MOONLIGHTING/UNIVERSAL. Nicole has also produced video features for REUTERS pan-African magazine show “Africa Journal” in Malawi. She has also worked as an editor for G&T Productions producing content for Supersport. Nicole has an MFA degree in Film and Television production from the University of Cape Town. She is currently producing & directing her first feature documentary “Buddha Comes to Africa” which is due for release in 2018. The film received the “IDFA Most Promising Documentary” Award at the doc circle pitch at the Durban Film Mart in 2011. It has also received funding from several international funds – The Hot Docs Blue Ice fund, IDFA Bertha Fund, Chicken and Egg Pictures and the KwaZulu-Natal film commission & National Film and Video Foundation in South Africa.
